Meet
Tyla Arnason

C-IAYT Yoga Therapist

Welcome to THE YOGA EFFECT, my yoga business and passion.

Finding a well-qualified yoga instructor in a time when yoga has become very trendy and popular, can be a daunting task. The credibility and well reported, positive effects of yoga have thankfully prompted students to expect more from their teachers. I am a voracious learner and continue, after over 20 years of yoga, to study yoga therapy, exercise science and the body, year after year. My education is listed below. Please take a few moments and allow me to share my yoga journey with you.

Long before I found yoga, I was a competitive gymnast in my hometown of Winnipeg, MB. I moved to Calgary in 1999 and added running and hiking to my list of pursuits. The day of my first 10km race I was in a car accident that caused significant injury. I went from being an avid mover and athlete to someone who couldn’t sit on the floor or move without significant pain.

Yoga, along some integrative care, helped relieve persistent pain and migraines and, more importantly, empowered me to manage my own rehabilitation without the use of medications and invasive techniques that I was told I was destined for. I love the effect that yoga had in allowing me to bring my body from a place of dysfunction and limitation, back into strength and balance. My practice complements my life in so many ways, but, equally important, it promotes well-being which also makes me a better wife and mother and, I believe, is helping me age with just a bit more vitality.

I have practiced yoga since 1999. My first Teacher Training Program began in 2005. I have been passionately teaching yoga since 2007 after resigning from a successful corporate career. Since 2011 I have been training yoga instructors from across the world, and empowering them to deepen their understanding of the body. movement, our nervous system, pain and compassion. This training & knowledge enables them to work with those who have been given a cancer diagnosis.

Outside of the cancer community, I love working with athletes. Most of my work has been with golfers, baseball players and ringette players.

For me, yoga is more than just something I do to keep in shape, it is a way of living my life with balance and gratitude. Outside of yoga, I love spending time with my family, my dogs, cooking, reading and taking photos (often of said food)! Nature is my church and I love cross country skiing, hiking, golf and photography.

I’m extremely committed to educating new movers, empowering experienced movers to be playful again and supporting folks in improving their well-being for a better quality of life. Come join me, I’ll share an experience with you that you’ll benefit from.

“Although I may not know where I am going, I am not lost, I am exploring.”

— Jana Stanfield

Credentials & Gratitude

Those deserving of the most gratitude and recognition are my students and the teachers I train. They are the real teachers and without them, I would not be growing into the compassionate and knowledgeable therapist that I am. It’s with humbled respect that I thank each and every student with whom I’ve had the pleasure to experience yoga with. I’ve learned so much by sharing in your journey. Namaste.

The following is a list of my credentials and the teachers with whom I have been blessed to study. It is their instruction and mentorship that have allowed me to grow as both a teacher and a lifelong student.

Tyla is a very knowledgeable instructor who creates a warm, safe and comfortable environment in her classes. She gives excellent instructions for the poses and pays great attention to details. Not only does she make modifications for those who might need it, she also encourages and challenges those who can go a little further. Tyla inspires me to want to continue with yoga.
